Visitor writes "Century 21 Realty Concepts has joined with Altamont Ministerial Food Pantry to beome a drop off for donations to the pantry. You can drop off non perishable items at 305 E. Cumberland Road anytime Monday thru Friday 8:30 - 5:00 and Saturday 8:30 - noon. "

Public Event Archive: The Altamont Disc Golf Course Project

At the Chamber of Commerce banquet the public was introduced to a proposed Disc Golf Course in Altamont. Disc golf is the fastest growing sport in the United States and courses have been constructed in the nearby communites of Effingham, Vandalia and St. Elmo. There are a number of Altamont residents who are avid Disc Golf fans that play on a regular basis. The Altamont High School phyical education department is also looking at including it in their curriculum.
Disc Golf is a sport that offers low impact exercise and fun for old and young alike. The basic idea is to throw a disc (Frisbee) from a tee area and land it in a upright chain / basket hole down course in as few throws as possible.

The course has been laid out by Mark Drone (Regional Sup. of Schools and EDGE member) and is just waiting for funds for the baskets and the tees. If you would like to make a donation or become involved in the process please email the Altamont Chamber Webmaster

PSA Archive: Altamont Lions Fishing Rodeo June 7th

On Saturday, June 7th the Altamont Lions Club in Conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Division of Fisheries Illinois free fishing days will have a fishing rodeo at Mathias Lake. Fishing starts at 8am and continues until noon and is for kids 14 years old and younger. Registration will be at the entrance to the lake and all fishermen will be required to register. Parking will be in the field next to the lake. In the event of rain there will be parking at the Ballard Nature Center and shuttle transportation will be provided. Food and drink for lunch will be provided in the pavilion area by the lake.
Mathias lake is located 2 miles east of Altamont on route 40.
